St. Louis Park Firefighters Jump in Frozen Lake to Train for Ice Rescues

The department holds annual training sessions on how to rescue victims who fall through the ice.

The St. Louis Park Fire Department held its annual ice rescue training this week at Twin Lakes Park.

Firefighters donned inflatable suits and jumped into a hole they drilled in the ice, pretending to be victims as their colleagues pulled them out of the water with ropes.

"Every year we have ice and cold water rescue incidents," said Hugo Searle, the firefighter in charge of ice rescue training. "Always treat all ice as unsafe."
