St. Louis Park Byerly's Given On-Sale Liquor License

The grocery store will offer wine and beer pairings in its cooking school area.

The St. Louis Park Byerly’s plans to start offering wine and beer pairings and tastings in its 23-seat cooking school area.

St. Louis Park’s city council voted unanimously to give Byerly’s an on-sale and Sunday liquor license at its Monday meeting.

Byerly’s lost a previous liquor license in April 2012 when it closed its restaurant to open the Bone Marché pet supply store.

“What we went through on Monday night gets us back to where we were,” Byerly’s manager Ross Huseby said.

The license will also help Byerly’s expand its catering service. The St. Louis Park store is the central location for the Byerly’s catering service.

The 3,280-square-foot, 84-seat cafe and cooking school area will be divided from the rest of the grocery store with 36-inch planters. Huseby said Byerly’s has no current plans to serve beer and wine in the 61-seat cafe.

The cost of the new license will include an $8,700 annual fee and a one-time $500 police background investigation.

Other recent changes at Byerly’s include a craft beer room in the liquor store and the addition of a gift basket shop.
