SLP Sees Highest Off-Year Voter Turnout Since 2001

About 20 percent of registered voters cast a ballot on Tuesday, according to an unofficial tally by the city clerk's office.

St. Louis Park saw the highest voter turnout figures for an off-year election in more than a decade on Tuesday, according to an unofficial tally by the city clerk’s office.

About 20 percent of registered voters—5,999 residents in total—cast a ballot.

“It’s very high,” city clerk Nancy Stroth said. “Last time we had this high a turnout in a city election was in 2001, when we had 25 percent.”

Preliminary figures show that 29,375 St. Louis Park residents were pre-registered to vote, with an additional 282 people taking advantage of same-day registration.

“We had the school referenda this year [and] I’m sure it brought a lot more people out,” Stroth said. “It’s a children-first community, so people care about the kids here.”

Final voter turnout figures are expected next week.
