9 St. Louis Park Seniors Among National Merit Semifinalists

Eight St. Louis Park High students and one Benilde-St. Margaret's student are among the 16,000 semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Eight Edina High School students are among the approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Additionally, one Benilde-St. Margaret's student, Samantha J. Letscher, was selected.

The list of semifinalists was released today, Sept. 11, outlining the students still in the running for 8,000 National Merit Scholarships—worth about $35 million—set to be awarded next spring.

Approximately 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, with more than half of those finalists ultimately winning a National Merit Scholarship.

The 16,000 semifinalists were selected from a group of 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship competition.
