Eight Edina High School students are among the approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Additionally, one Benilde-St. Margaret's student, Samantha J. Letscher, was selected.
The list of semifinalists was released today, Sept. 11, outlining the students still in the running for 8,000 National Merit Scholarships—worth about $35 million—set to be awarded next spring.
Approximately 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, with more than half of those finalists ultimately winning a National Merit Scholarship.
The 16,000 semifinalists were selected from a group of 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship competition.
