Visions for Vacancies asks you to imagine what you'd like to see move into vacant St. Louis Park properties. Have a location to suggest, or an update on a previously vacant space? Email michael.rose@patch.com.Two pieces of land near Wayzata Boulevard and Texas Avenue are set to be developed, likely for some kind of new housing. The parcels are owned by MnDOT and have been identified as "excess property" after a highway project. MnDOT is willing to sell the land to the city for development. Currently, the area is zoned residential, and at a Monday night City Council meeting, members said they'd probably like to keep it that way. So, expect some type of housing to go up. But we want to hear specifically what kind of housing you'd like to see. Apartments? Condos? Single-family homes? Mixed-use? And …
Located near the corner of Minnetonka Boulevard and Texas Avenue, this 3,200 square-foot space is available for lease. What would you like to see move in? Another cleaner? Something different? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
Update (Aug. 25): This location is now officially the new House of Sport. Update (May 21): We spoke with the owner of the building, Curt Rahman, and he said he's been receiving a number of calls on the space. Rahman said he's waiting for the best offer before proceeding, and no definitive timetable exists for filling this vacancy. May 21: It's no secret that the Lake Street corridor is an area that the city would like to see revitalized, and filling the vacant Do It Best Hardware store would be a …
What once was a Pawn America is now a large, vacant building in St. Louis Park. So what should move in at 5600 Excelsior Boulevard? Should it remain commercial, or maybe housing could go here? We want to hear what you think—post your vision for this vacancy in the comments below.
Typically, we've featured smaller, commercial spaces in this column. However, a large plant is sitting vacant just off of Highway 7. The Sara Lee coffee plant closed earlier this year, leaving 37,500 square-feet of empty space. The building had been making coffee since 1977, and before that, peanut butter was produced here. The building is currently listed for sale. Most likely, it will remain industrial, unless a buyer breaks it up into smaller, commercial lots. What would you like to see go here? Tell us in the comments below.
It's too bad that Coffee Buzz wasn't able to make it, as it was a cool little coffee shop in a rapidly developing part of town. But alas, an empty building is sitting at 5690 West 36th St., waiting for someone to move in. With large residential developments going up at either end of the street, this seems like a pretty prime storefront. What do you think should go here? A new coffee shop? Something else? Tell us in the comments below.
When The Four Firkins moved last fall, the store got a great new place in St. Louis Park. But what to do with it's old building, near the corner of Minnetonka Boulevard and Texas Avenue? That's where you come in—share your vision for this vacancy by posting a comment below.
Located on the corner of Minnetonka Boulevard and Dakota Avenue, the old Tonka Mart is a prominent—but empty—building. The nearest gas stations are at Minnetonka and Louisiana Avenue to the west, and at Minnetonka and Vernon Avenue to the east. Should there be another one at Minnetonka and Dakota? Or would you like to see something new move in? Tell us your vision for this vacancy in the comments below.
The Texa-Tonka Shopping Center has a number of popular businesses, such as Thanh Do and Erik's Bike Shop. But there are also several vacancies here, and we'd like to know what you think should move in. Leave your suggestion as a comment below.
The 36th Street corridor is an area City Council has focused on, and there is currently plenty of redevelopment occurring, with both a senior high-rise and a new apartment complex going up. But there are still a few vacancies here, including one at the corner of 36th and Webster Avenue. The Four Firkins and several other businesses are nearby, underneath a large apartment complex. What would you like to see move in at this corner? Tell us in the comments below.
Sitting right at the intersection of Dakota Avenue and Minnetonka Boulevard, this large building has plenty of potential. According to the "For Lease" sign out front, the space is divisible, so perhaps more than one tenant should move in? Or would one larger business be best? We'd love to hear what you think.
Several "for rent" signs currently adorn the London Square building on Lake Street, and we'd love to hear what you think should go here. According to the St. Louis Park Historical Society, the building dates back to 1949 and has been the home of numerous businesses, as well as at least two apartments at one time. Located across the street from the St. Louis Park High School stadium, London Square is part of a Lake Street area that the city wants to see revitalized, perhaps in the same vein as Excelsior Boulevard. So what should go here? Post a comment below to share your idea.
Patch readers, you know the drill by now: In the comments below, tell us what you think should fill this vacant space. The old Bally's Total Fitness, located at the corner of Excelsior Boulevard and Quentin Avenue, is a large building in a prominent location, so there are a lot of possibilities here. Let your imagination run wild.
After closing in 2008, the Bennigan's restaurant building on Wayzata Boulevard has sat vacant. It's a large building, so there are a lot of possibilities. Perhaps another restaurant to compete with the Woodfire Grill next door? Or something else entirely? In the comments section below, tell us what you'd like to see go in.
Today, we're introducing a new, occasional series called "Visions for Vacancies" in which we'll ask you, the Patch reader, what you'd like to see move into vacant spaces in St. Louis Park. Our first post is the building at the corner of Minnetonka Boulevard and Texas Avenue, across from the Texa-Tonka Shopping Center. In the comments section below, tell us what you'd like to see occupy this space, and why. We'll try to update old posts when someone moves into a vacant space, but we could use your help with that, too. If you notice comings and goings in St. Louis Park, please email michael.…
