Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

About this column:

Patch combs the vast video world that is YouTube for clips from or about St. Louis Park.
The good folks at the Four Firkins in St. Louis Park really love beer. So much so that they sing about it. Staff at the local craft beer store recently put together a music video to "Zum Zum Zum," a German stein song produced in 1914 for the Minneapolis Brewing Company (which later became Grain Belt). Singing is store owner and founder Jason Alvey, along with Bryan Buser, Ian Finch, Doug Hawkins, Josh Rosengren and Michael Wagner.  Well done, fellas. Cheers to all of you!
Scott Olson didn't invent the concept of rollerblades, but the St. Louis Park native did perfect the toy and found Rollerblade, Inc., in 1979. In an undated "48 Hours" segment (see video above), Scott discussed the invention of the Rollerblade—and how he subsequently lost control of the company. He also talked about how he wasn't done inventing things, with products like the new rowbike coming out. Best as we can tell, the rowbike was first sold in 1997, so because this segment featured Olson doing some product testing, we'd guess the airdate was sometime in the early- to mid-1990s. But if …
Students don't usually see their teachers getting down to "Let's Get it Started" by the Black Eyed Peas, but that's exactly what Benilde-St. Margaret's faculty and staff did last week. As part of Catholic Schools Week, BSM faculty and staff surprised students with a flash mob dance routine during a pep fest. And from the looks of it (see video above), they did plenty of practicing.
Ah, the mullet. A true follicle masterpiece. And nowhere has the mullet been more prominent over the years then in hockey. Want proof? Check out the first few seconds of this 1987 St. Louis Park High School boys hockey highlight tape. Then, prepare to rock as some slamming guitar joins the old-school video. A fitting salute to the mullet. By the way, does anyone know how the team did in 1987? We'd love to hear from folks who played on the team or took in a few games—just leave a comment below. If you're a kid, one of the true staples of summer is the summer camp. Youngsters from Wooddale Lutheran Church showed how true this is with a fun video from their trip to Camp Wapogasset earlier this summer. Oh, to be young again... We're always looking for good St. Louis Park YouTube videos to feature. If you know of one, email local editor Michael Rose.
It's probably been a long week for you so far, and there are still two days until the weekend, so why not unwind for a minute with some Bob Dylan? Actually, that's St. Louis Park's Dan Israel singing at last year's Blood on the Tracks Live concert, but boy does he sound a lot like the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. If you missed seeing that performance in person last summer, fear not—Blood on the Tracks Live is returning to St. Louis Park this summer. The concert is set for Aug. 20 at the Wolfe Park Amphitheater. For more information, check out the Blood on the Tracks Live Facebook page. PS - …
The drive from St. Louis Park to Minnetonka isn't very far, but it's a whole lot more entertaining from the perspective of a Vespa's handle bars—with an awesome driving song added in, of course. That's the premise of Ben Nesvig's YouTube video, which takes viewers on a journey between the two suburbs, with "Scootering" by The Invaders as the perfect soundtrack. At the very least, it makes for a fun summer video. Check it out above. We're always looking for good St. Louis Park YouTube videos to feature. If you know of one, email local editor Michael Rose.
Maybe you were busy Monday night and missed the annual St. Louis Park fireworks. Or maybe you just really love fireworks and want to watch them over and over. In either case, the YouTube video above will take care of you. Want even more fireworks? We've got a photo gallery full of 'em. We're always looking for good St. Louis Park YouTube videos to feature. If you know of one, email local editor Michael Rose.
You might need to know French to figure out what these St. Louis Park students are saying, but class video projects are fun in any language. If you have a video to suggest for "SLP on the Tube," please email local editor Michael Rose.
One part Michael Jackson soundtrack. One part bad hairstyles. One part bright colors. What is this a recipe for? The 1993-94 St. Louis Park Junior High School video yearbook, of course. I for one am so glad I could find this video on YouTube. Enjoy! Also, if you happen to have some early '90s school photos that you're brave enough to share, add them directly to this post (if you're a registered Patch user) by clicking on "Add your photos and videos" above. Or, email your photos to michael.rose@patch.com.
Editor's Note: This is the first installment of a new, occasional feature that will highlight St. Louis Park-related YouTube videos. If you have a video to suggest, please email local editor Michael Rose. The valedictorian speech is a tradition at high school graduations across the country, and this year, St. Louis Park High School continued that tradition—but with a twist. Five seniors gave a speech with intertwined parts, sharing their collective reflections on the high school experience. Watch the video above for that speech, given on June 2 at the high school's football field.
