Hi Laura, I've lived in St Louis Park for 15 years and only had a power outage in the winter aRead Moresmall handful of times. Mostly less than 4 hours. We had a longer outage a year or two ago when it was in the 30's so no freeze worries but still cold. For that one I stayed the night at the Super 8 in Golden Valley which is only like $55. I've thought about investing in a gas powered generator but it hasn't been that much of an issue to warrant it.

Very sorry to see Patch go. Good concept and some great reporters who were very invested in theRead Morecomm unities where they were reporting. And, also sorry to hear how Patch does layoffs. Firing hardworking employees via a mass conference call lacks class.

Didn't they shut down a bunch of Patch sites several months back? So sad. I actually enjoyedRead Morereading these articles vs the major papers in the area. For those who actually live in SLP, if you want to stay connected (if Patch is gone for good), the city recently started using Nextdoor.com to connect residents (many neighborhoods already were). You must actually live in the city to participate and its not "news oriented" like this at all, but might fill part of the void. Some other cities and neighborhoods may also use it, but I am only familiar with the SLP ones.
