SLP Man Busted Again for Driving Without a License
Authorities say Abdul Khalid Hakeem Malik-El was in court last month on a charge of driving with a canceled license—and when he left, he got into his car and drove away.
A St. Louis Park man may not be getting the message: You’re not allowed to drive in Minnesota without a driver’s license.
Abdul Khalid Hakeem Malik-El, also known as Keith Edward Montgomery, 44, has been charged—again—with driving after his license has been canceled, a gross misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine.
Malik-El’s most recent arrest came on Sept. 20. Authorities say he appeared in Dakota County District Court in Hastings that day on another charge of driving after his license was canceled.

As Malik-El left the courthouse, a deputy who knew about his criminal record watched him get into his car and drive away, according to the criminal complaint.
The deputy activated his emergency lights and stopped Malik-El’s car at Goodwin Avenue and Highway 55.

When the deputy asked for Malik-El’s driver’s license, he replied that he was “traveling as a matter of right, not privilege,” according to the complaint.
Malik-El’s criminal history, in both names, includes seven previous convictions for driving with a canceled license, one conviction for having no license, three convictions for driving with a suspended license and one conviction for driving with a revoked license.
There was no word on how Malik-El intends to get to the courthouse for his upcoming court appearances.
