(PHOTOS) Runway Looks Come From Renewed Items

Stylists from around the Twin Cities converged on Second Début in St. Louis Park Saturday for a fashion competition and benefit.

"Project Runway" met renewed fashion Saturday night in St. Louis Park during a high-energy, standing-room only showcase.

The Second Début boutique played host to the "Twin Cities Style Off," where stylists gathered to see who could put together the best outfits picked from items in the store, with a catch—they only had 20 minutes to do it.

Round one had stylists picking out renewed items for professional models and round two had them styling for actual Second Début shoppers. Celebrity judges from the Twin Cities fashion scene scored the stylists on various criteria, and attendees at the event could also purchase a ballot for $1 to vote for their favorite stylist.

Angela Garrett, director of development for Goodwill/Easter Seals Minnesota, which operates Second Début, said funds raised through the event will provide workforce development services to individuals who are experiencing barriers to employment, such as language issues or disabilities.

"We're supporting a mission to put people back to work." Garrett told the audience that filled the store.

Local musician Auburn got the party started with a performance and kept the energy going between rounds. Hors d'oeuvres were served and the hosts for the evening—trend expert and event planner Richard Moody, and model and actor Bill Tamlyn—kept the crowd informed, engaged and entertained.

The winning stylist was Susan Metzger, with second place going to Catrice O’Neal and third place going to Danielle St. Urbain.

The event appeared to be a smashing success based on attendance.

“Once things got started, it went really great,” Second Début store manager Kathy Cahlander said.
