New Four Firkins Could Open by End of September

The St. Louis Park craft beer store is relocating within the city.

There have been a few delays, but Jason Alvey is aiming to open version 2.0 by the end of September.

Alvey, who is the owner of the St. Louis Park craft beer store, announced in June that he would be . At the time, Alvey was eyeing an August grand opening.

However, delays in construction and the inspection process have pushed that back, though Alvey said basic interior work should be done within two weeks.

"Then we go in and make it look amazing," he added.

To make the new Four Firkins look "amazing," Alvey is planning on creating a small museum of beer-related artifacts that he’s collected over the years, such as antique bottles and old-fashioned beer barrels.

“It’s a pretty impressive collection, if I may say so myself,” Alvey said.

In addition, the new Four Firkins will have a one-of-a-kind checkout. Alvey said he is having a large wooden archway crafted that will resemble something out of a Belgian Trappist monastery, an homage to the birthplace of some of the world’s most storied craft beer. That archway, which will be the centerpiece of the new store, is currently being built off-site, Alvey said.

When all of the work gets done, Alvey said Firkins fans needn't worry about the store being shut down for a few days for a move. He said the plan is to make the last night in the current location a Saturday. Liquor stores can't be open on Sundays in Minnesota, so that will be a moving day. The new Four Firkins will then open on a Monday.
